Fiona Funnell

Choir leader, Singer, Composer, Vocal Coax

I'm Fiona Funnell, musical director, composer, singer and storyteller

Fiona Funnell choirleader composer

To find out what I'm up to, take a look on the calendar.

I set up and run pop-up and long-running choirs, lead singing workshops in art galleries, compose my own songs, give one-to-one vocal coaxing sessions, and undertake commissions to compose site specific or art based music.

Vocal Coaxing

I run multi-generational singing workshops in libraries for Southampton Music Hub called Choral Clans.

Hanger Farm Arts Centre Children's Choir Project
Hanger Farm successfully applied for funding from 'Find Your Talent' and commissioned me to compose a series of songs based on the history of Hanger Farm. I worked with 50 children from local schools between November and February teaching the songs, honing their singing skills, culminating in a performance at Hanger Farm on Saturday 27th February 2010.

Who can commission me?
If you are an adult choir, school, individual, acapella quartet
and want to commission me to compose please contact me.

Fiona has  worked in schools for over 15 years running storytelling and music projects.

Basic Storytelling

Fiona is available to come into school for storytelling sessions.

Story, Song and Dance Project

'The Leopard's Drum' was a series of 4 days in St John's Infant and Nursery School. Fiona told the story to the whole school then worked with each class teaching them a song and helping them to choreograph a dance. The whole school came back together to retell the story for parents and governers. Fiona composed the music for this project.

INSET Training

'Vocal Coaxing,' voice care and confidence, practise harmonies and rounds appropriate to your Key Stage, teambuilding.

Fiona is also available for private singing lessons and vocal coaxing.

Participants from a singing workshop at Southampton Art Gallery led by Fiona as part of ‘Sing the Nation’. Saturday 23rd August 2008

Fantastic! I really enjoyed this afternoon and it has inspired me to start singing again. Fiona’s enthusiasm and way she communicated was inspiring. Sue Sharman.

Before – intrigued. During – uplifted. After – chilled. Thank you. Nigel Berry.

As always, Fiona’s ‘joie de vivre’ releases inhibitions and brings out the best in people. A real life enhancing experience. I’m a fan for life! Rosemary MacMullen.

I very much enjoyed the workshop. Fiona’s enthusiasm and joy in singing is an inspiration. She had clearly worked hard in making the music link to the art at the gallery. May this be the start of many more similar events. Eileen Eyers.

It was a fabulous afternoon; really enjoyable! I think it should be a regular event! Sharon Grech

Fantastically enjoyable and good exercise for a croaky voice. Norma Dummer.

I thoroughly enjoyed today’s workshop and your comment at the beginning that if you can speak you can sing really gave me confidence! Thankyou! Glynis Pascall.
